Beate
In 2004 I moved to Ireland due to a job assignment of my husband together with our son who was about 10 months old at the time. As we knew Ireland from previous visits this suited our plans very well. However I had to find out pretty soon that setting up a new life in a foreign country without having recourse to friends, family and a solid social network can be quite difficult and sometimes frustrating. I was surprised about the cultural differences even though Ireland is a Western European country not far from home. It took about a year until I had properly settled in and found my first new friends.
Two years later I found myself in another city yet again. Due to my previous experience it was much easier to adapt to this new environment, but I met a lot of women there who were new to Ireland and seemed to have the same difficulties as I had experienced. Based on this I decided to set up an International Women's Club which was quite popular and served to offer each other some support and an open ear.
Back in Austria I created bfamily which is a platform which enables people to get in touch with each other in an informal and easy way and offers a lot of practical help and support in daily life.
Everything I would have needed abroad! ;-)
